Sharing a Viewlet

How to Share a Viewlet

An optional feature in Periscope, users can export fully configured viewlets to external web pages or share with other people. If any changes are made in Periscope to shared viewlets, the changes will persist to the shared copies as well. Creating a separate user for sharing viewlets is a good idea to keep shared viewlets configured as desired.  If a viewlet that has been shared is removed from the dashboard, the shared link will no longer work correctly.

When a viewlet is shared, it will present the user with several options. When opened, each shared viewlet will be viewed in full screen, minus the title bar and any configuration options. Types of sharing:

  • Email / Instant Messenger - This unique link can be shared with any number of people and can be sent via Email, IM, or any other medium.  When this link is clicked, it will open the shared viewlet in a maximized view.
  • Webpage - This line includes HTML to embed the shared viewlet into a webpage.  It uses an IFrame which can be modified to fit the needed height/width of the available space.  The default width is 600px and the default height is 300px.

The Viewlet Web Publishing feature requires an AX Guest account set up in order to export and share. The AX guest must have ‘Operator Read’ and ‘Admin Invoke’ rights to the following AX objects:

  • PeriscopeService
  • External Viewlet Servlet
  • Periscope API Servlet (hidden)
  • oBIX Network

In addition the Guest must have ‘Operator Read’ access to any live Point that may be viewed in Periscope.
