Periscope Mobile

Overview

Periscope Mobile is a new feature in Periscope 2.4 which allows viewing of select viewlets in HTML5 which works on all modern mobile operating systems (iOS, Android, Windows Phone).  Periscope Mobile acts as a separate UI to the Periscope Dashboard used on desktop browsers and displays the same configured viewlets

Accessing

Periscope Mobile can be accessed by navigating to /periscopemobile instead of /periscope on your Periscope server.  The initial view will show a list of viewlets that are available on your currently logged in user.  The "Menu" option allows you to show all viewlets from your current dashboard or from the library.

Not all Periscope viewlets are HTML5 compatible and not all functionality is present on mobile - please see "Limitations" below for more details.

This is the main list view, clicking on any list item will take you to the viewlet.

Setup

Periscope Mobile requires Periscope 2.4 with the part number PER-F104.  Once this part number is added to your license users will immediately be able to access Periscope Mobile by navigating to /periscopemobile.

Mobile App

Periscope Mobile can be set up as a Niagara Mobile App, which allows quick access through the Niagara Mobile View.  This setup requires an additional JAR called "alxPeriscopeWebApp", which can be requested from Activelogix Tech Support.  Once the JAR has been installed the mobile app can be added by following:

  1. Navigate to Station/Apps
  2. Right Click, select Views and select App Manager.

  3. Select New at the bottom of the window. Select "Periscope Web App" from the dropdown, select Ok.
  4. Click "OK"
  5. PeriscopeWebApp should now appear in your dropdown menu under Apps.

Once Periscope has been added to the list of Niagara Apps, mobile users will see an additional Periscope app icon when accessing the Niagara Station on a mobile device.

Homescreen Icon

Periscope Mobile can be added directly to your Android or iOS homescreen which allows quick access and a better "native app" experience.  Follow the steps below depending on your mobile OS:

  2. Tap the Chrome menu button (top-right, three dots)
  3. Tap on "Add to homescreen"
