FoxService: Authentication Policy

FoxService has two different authentication policies.

  • Basic (the user's password is transmitted to the station in clear text without any kind of encryption)
  • Digest (the user's password is encrypted through transmission)

When FoxService authentication is set to basic on an insecure network, passwords are vulnerable to theft. 

The FoxService should always be set to Digest.

To set the Authentication Policy to Digest

  1. Navigate to the Station's Drivers > NiagaraNetwork > FoxService's property sheet
  2. Set the "Authentication Policy" to "Digest"
