Tagging Equipment

Tagging equipment in the Niagara database with "hs:equip" tags allows the controls system (and Periscope) to understand what mechanical equipment the user has discovered. More specific equipment tags (such as hs:elecMeter) can also give the software information on the specific type of equipment (an electric meter in this case). When these "equips" are paired with references to points, these systems will then know which points are "children" of said equipment and hierarchies can be automatically created in Niagara and Periscope.

To tag equipment, users should right-click and select "Edit Tags" on the appropriate equipment folders or Network Devices as created/determined in a similar manner to the process of tagging sites. This process can be done in batch edits using the Program Service as well. All equipment should receive the hs:equip tag as a mandate, but complementary tags can and often should be added depending on the equipment type.

Below are links to Project Haystack tagging standards for common equipment types to help ensure you are using the correct tags on your equipment:

Assuming site and equip tags are in place, "Relation Marks" should now be implemented to link points to their respective sites and equipment so that Niagara and Periscope know how the data is related. See Relations / Refs for more information on setting up these relationships.
